This is the output of a one week project called ‘Repair is Beautiful’ at the University of the Creative Arts Canterbury. The brief was to find broken and discarded items from the streets of Amsterdam and give them new beauty and purpose. I found this stainless steel flask top near the Red Light District and decided to make it into a unique coffee cup and saucer. Influenced by glass bottomed tankards, I fitted a clear acrylic bottom into the flask top. Similarly, I put an acrylic bottom into the oak saucer. A map of Amsterdam has been transferred onto the side of the cup in commemoration of where the item was found.
